Christmas packaging could be recycled
Extra truck needed to haul extra holiday refuse

Fort Saskatchewan Record — The city’s Environmental Awareness Committee is hoping to start a new holiday tradition, recycling left over Christmas refuse.
“What we want to do is just remind people that a large percentage of the packaging we get with Christmas presents can be recycled,” says Committee Chair Daryl Stubbington.
But right now a lot of that recyclable material is ending up in the landfill. If fact the city had to bring in another garbage truck to haul the extra material left over from the holidays. Not only does the city have to pay to haul the extra garbage, but the city loses money it could have made off recycled material.
Wrapping paper, cardboard boxes, and most of the plastic that comes with Christmas presents can all be recycled but this year much of it ended up in garbage cans.
