Cynthia Perdue, Opelousas Main Street director, escorts Edmonia Bernard around her Church Street residence Saturday morning while volunteers spruce up her home as part of the Christmas in April Program. Working on the project were members of the Opelousas Historic District, students from Opelousas Catholic and Main Street Program volunteers.
St. Landry Parish citizens fanned out over the parish Saturday to bring joy and fresh paint to 17 elderly homeowners as part of the annual Christmas in April program.
"I am so excited. This is beautiful," said Edmonia Bernard, 84, as she surveyed the handiwork of almost 20 volunteers who repaired her white woodframe home in the 400 block of West Church Street in Opelousas.
